At our gym, a lot of people ask us this: for how long should I train before I feel ready to compete? This is a great question. There is a lot of things you must consider if you wish to train for competitions. The most crucial step is time management. You must dedicate at least 1 hour 4-5 times a week for boxing. And you must make it consistent, without any breaks. The next question is: for how long should I do it for before competing? And the straight forward answer to that is: 8 to 9 months.
At Golden Gloves Fitness, we like to start training our fighters in January so that they are ready in August/ September for their fight. The next questions is: how do you prepare your fighters? The first and foremost way we get our champions ready is by having our top coach Alex work closely with them. He has a special feel for boxing that have changed and revitalized many people’s lives. In other words, he his skills as a coach cannot be found any where else. He understands the science and movement behind boxing.
After having the right coach, the next step is learning the proper position and how to be light on your feet. Our coach can help you with that. As the months progress we adjust your defense and attacking skills so that you feel more confident in the sport of boxing. We also like to switch opponents, exercises and go above and beyond in our training. After we feel confident, we then proceed to signing up for competitions and prepare for the first fight.
One of our fighters, Agustino, fought at the Danforth Music Hall last July and he did a fantastic job! We like to think inside and outside of the ring at our sports gym in Vaughan. We like to mix boxing up with cardio and fitness when we see it fit. If you have any questions or if you would like to get in touch with us, please do not hesitate to contact us today to find out how we can help YOU!
